The peer review process is the pride of rigorous academic publishing. It is a critical component used to maintain the integrity of academic publications and a method used to ensure that information appearing in the scientific and medical literature is thoroughly vetted for accuracy.

How Does Peer Review Work?

The process begins after a researcher submits a paper to an academic journal. The editors of the journal then assign a group of independent reviewers to evaluate and critique the content of paper.1 Often, the researcher submitting the study will offer names of scholars in their field of study who are qualified to undertake the reviews. However, the final decision on the selection of reviewer typically lies in the hands of the journal editors.1

After the reviewers are appointed, they are required to investigate the research methodology used to conduct the study and provide feedback on any further improvements that can be made.1 In cases where the research methodology is flawed, reviewers have the ability to reject the paper. Typically, reviewers have no direct contact with the researchers and communicate their feedback via the editors of the journal who then decide to accept or reject the paper for publication.1

Dear reader,

Picture it.

Every staff member in the emergency room is covered head to toe in masks, gowns and gloves.

Patients spread about the ER bays — the worst cases rushed to isolation rooms.

Families, particularly those with children, told to leave for their own protection.

Medications and vaccines stockpiled in nurses stations so quickly pharmacy can’t fill the orders.

Instantly, emails fly out to all of the floors.

Administrators, VPs, infection control specialists, and department managers frantically making emergency census plans, hiring more part-time staff.

Frantically adding employees to on-call lists — preparing for the certain onslaught of sick patients and inevitable nursing staff absences.

What kind of outbreak could cause such madness?

Ebola?

Measles?

The plague?!

Nope.

As a mental health triage screener, this is the scene I observed each year since the first case of influenza rolled into the ER.

…In 1994, a song written by a jam band called Blues Traveler came out and was played in clubs and on radios across the nation.  It made the top ten charts and remains one of the most memorable songs from the 1990’s.  That song was entitled Hook and the lyrics of the song assert that even if what a singer sings about is effectively meaningless, listeners will keep coming back to it so long as it’s articulated in a way that makes listeners feel “some inner truth of vast reflection” is being conveyed.  Most listeners didn’t even pay attention to the lyrics, but sang along anyway.  Well, folks, that’s exactly what’s been happening recently with an article on vaccinations that’s been making the rounds lately.  Welcome to information age, where a blog post can be shared all over cyberspace and receive over 10,000 “likes” on facebook and say very little that is actually useful.

Entitled “Dear parents, you are being lied to,” Jennifer Raff lists all the vaccination-related arguments she’s heard over the years from (presumably) those who choose not to vaccinate (she simply addresses a collective “they.”)  What makes this article so appealing is that she doesn’t bog us down with details.  She simply lists her points statement-rebuttal style and includes a few links to her pro-vaccination statements.  The problem with this is that when you take the time to dig down into the details, you soon realize she’s wrong.  By exaggerating the information cited in each argument, she makes what is (judging by the popularity of the article) an apparently compelling argument to those unwilling to dig deeper, but is essentially a straw man once the surface is scratched….

“In light of recent outbreaks of measles and other vaccine preventable illnesses, and the refusal of anti-vaccination advocates to acknowledge the problem, I thought it was past time for this post.”

“Recent outbreaks” according to the linked article: 189 (out of roughly 300,000,000) people in 2013.

To put this in perspective, that’s 1 out of every 1,500,000 (1) in the United States.  That’s hardly an epidemic.

Health Impact News

The last report issued in 2013 by the Department of Justice (Vaccine Court), for compensation made by the Health and Human Services for people injured or killed by vaccines, was released in December 2013, covering the period of 8/16/2013 through 11/15/2013. The report is available as a Power Point presentation here.

There were 139 claims settled during this time period, with 70 of them being compensated. So, just over 50% of the claims filed for vaccine damages were compensated during this period.

Once again, the greatest percentage of damages compensated were for the influenza vaccine, and most of those were for Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS). Yet these facts, tucked away in a file on the Department of Health and Human Services website, are never reported in the mainstream media. So we will report them here. Of the 70 cases compensated, 42 of them were for the flu vaccine, or 60% of the cases settled where compensation was awarded for injury or death due to the vaccine. The combined total of the other 40% of cases settled included the following vaccines: Hep B, Tetanus, HPV, DTaP, MMR, IPV, PCV, Hib, Meningococcal, Varicella, TD…

…So injuries and deaths due to the flu vaccine were compensated more than the total compensation paid out to eleven other vaccines. Yet, if you look at the top selling vaccines in the market, the top flu vaccine is only #5, being outsold by Prevnar, Gardasil, PENTAct-HIB, and Infanrix/Pediarix. (Source.)

…November 20th, Christopher was supposed to pick his girlfriend up at the Frontrunner station and when he didn’t show up and she couldn’t reach him she called one of his friends who called me. I called his roommate who found him. He had passed away in his sleep.

That was the day my world stopped.

We spoke with the medical examiner about his medical history several times over the next two months looking for a cause. The only thing that was out of the ordinary was the vaccine. She called us on February 10th to say she thought the cause of death would be “unknown” but they were going to do one more test on his heart. (I remember the date. Christopher’s birthday is February 11th).

We finally received the autopsy results in mid-February 2010. Cause of death:  Viral Myocarditis. The medical examiner said it was the “flu” he had in October. I reminded her he had not had the flu; it was the vaccine he had in October…

…He studied environmental law at Westminster College for one year but decided he didn’t want to be a lawyer.  He said there were too many rules; he wanted to use his creativity and pursue a degree in his first love, architecture.  So he transferred to Utah State University in August 2009. On October 15, 2009 he flew to Oregon with his dad to look at schools. He wanted to start with a civil engineering degree and then pursue a degree in architecture with an emphasis in sustainable architecture…

What a sad loss.  My condolences to this family. You can tell Christopher is just an amazing son.  I am so sorry.

Thank you for getting the word out and yes these type of reactions are becoming commonplace world-wide.

I am certain that your story will help another family from going through this same pain as you have.

I do believe you will be reunited with him one day.

House Resolution H.R. 2232has introduced a bill, House Resolution H.R. 2232, that will require all states to mandate all students enrolled in public schools receive all the vaccines recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Policy, a federal body compromised of vaccine-industry representatives, which includes vaccines for HPV, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, Paul Offit’s rota virus vaccine, annual flu shots, and dozens of others. States that do not comply will not be eligible for grants for “preventive health services” under the Public Health Services Act.

Please Take Action to send a message to your member of the House expressing you opposition to this bill.

And please call Rep. Wilson’s office in Washington, DC, and let them know politely why this bill is a bad idea: Rep. Frederica S. Wilson, 202-225-4506

Wilson’s bill, if passed, would for the first time establish a federal vaccination requirement to attend school. Current vaccines policies are set by the states, but with the increasing federal control over schools with No Child Left Behind and the Common Core, Wilson’s bill maybe an indicator of what is coming. This bill would also deliver to the vaccine industry two of their primary goals: completely removing any parental involvement in vaccine decisions for our children, and requiring the entire ACIP schedule, which no state currently does.

Exemptions would not be allowed for either religious or secular reasons. Medical exemptions are quite tenuously allowed provided a physician submits a letter “demonstrating (to the satisfaction of the individual in charge of the health program at the student’s school) that the physician’s opinion conforms to the accepted standard of medical care.” So the final authority rests with the person in charge of the health program at the school who probably would not be a physician, and this language obviously allows the physician’s judgment to be overridden by anyone who disagrees with the exemption, regardless of that person’s qualifications. They aren’t even required to examine the child, or even the child’s medical records before overriding a physician…

Finally, it’s time for “Informed Consent Regulation” at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as a formal legal petition has been filed by Trustees of the Natural Solutions Foundation on June 11, 2015, and ALL citizens and others residing of the U.S. who value not being mandated to take vaccines or other pharmaceuticals, are asked to sign the petition here.

Very few, if any, prospective vaccine recipients, or their natural guardians, know vaccine ingredient/content facts or are given valid factual information about a vaccine, especially the toxic ingredients, contraindications and adverse reactions for each vaccine as listed on its package insert, so as to make an intelligent informed consent before the injection of toxic chemicals, viruses, metals, foreign DNA, excipients, cell fragments, drugs, adjuvants, bacteria, fungi and nano-particles contained in vaccines, into one’s body or one’s children’s bodies.
